Another taste of THE OCTOPUS PROJECT

Here's another tune by our Saturday headliner; completely different from the last "Wet Gold" song I posted; below is a video for "Porno Disaster" (an image I'm trying not to think of) from their first album "Identification Parade" released in 2002. The song gets REAL(ly) good at the :30 mark.

AFTERPARTY: Space Jesus

Here's a short preview track from our afterparty DJ, Space Jesus. Steezy DUB if you know what I'm gettin' at.

4 DAYS UNTIL KOHOUTEK.
Friday. 4pm. Pitzer Mounds.

ARTIST: DJ TONY FRESCH

Opening for our Saturday night headliner is DJ Tony Fresch; Having opened for Diplo and opening for Steve Aoki the Tuesday after Kohoutek, I have no cooler way of saying it, but Tony is definitely about to blow up on the electronic music scene. Take a look at his own original "Oh No Techno" below, and if you've ever wondered what the sensation of dancing unbelievably hard in the middle of a jungle would be like (more commonly know as the genre Moombahton) there's a few songs for that as well...

ARTIST: COSMONAUTS

Our 5C radio station KSPC has been generous enough to spearhead the band the Cosmonauts for Kohoutek! Playing mellow garage rock that is super indicative of their Orange County upbringing, what makes the Cosmonauts such an awesome up-and-coming local band is their ability to make it all so fun to dance to live. The energy picks up and it's an easy sell to a living body, especially when they pull out the classic 3 minute rock-n-roll  songs. Below is a video for their song "Flower Bomb", and THANKS to KSPC for funding them!

ARTIST: Modal Tease String Band

Local artist Modal Tease from Mount Baldy! Some really unbelievable folk, old time string band music making the trek down for Saturday afternoon. Can't put up music, but below is a link to their Myspace page, where they have some tunes!

ARTIST: THE MORNING BIRDS

Yet another Kohoutek band to look forward to: L.A. based alternative/indie rock duo the Morning Birds. Definitely stripped down kind of rock sound, not too many bells and whistles which is a superbly nice change of pace; here's the video for their song "It's Then You'll Know":

ARTIST: BEAT CONNECTION

Here is song "Silver Screen" from another one of our Kohoutek artists, duo Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger who make up the group Beat Connection. They self-define their sound as like, "waking up to a sunset", and I have to say I don't disagree; I wouldn't mind waking up on the Pitzer mounds after a night of Kohoutek and hearing this. (Plus, they're kind of cuties.)

More on American Royalty

I don't know exactly why that Pharoahe Monch song is at the beginning, but I am digging it; definitely many points to American Royalty. Here's a link to a video of them re-recording a sped of version of their song "For the Record".  Super awesome, especially when the vocals kick in. GET PUMPED.

Phantogram?

Liked this review on the BBC website of Phantogram's Eyelid Movies, commenting on how their music sounds like, "drunken robots walking arm and arm down the Champs-Elysees.":

Artist: PHANTOGRAM

We've solidified our second headliner: Phantogram! They hail all the way from New York (yeah!), playing this really titillating and awesome combination of electronic samples, synth and live guitar; A sort of dancey, indie-rock aesthetic that will be certifiably enjoyable at Kohoutek. Below is my favorite song of theres "When I'm Small" from their 2010 album Eyelid Movies.

Some Space Sh*t

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Kohoutek

For everyone that doesn't know, Kohoutek got its name from a long-term traveling comet discovered sometime in the early 70s. Good call Lubos.
